Transgenerational Therapy & Psychogenealogy

Healing begins when we understand the stories of our origins.

Psychogenealogy and Transgenerational Therapy address the invisible threads that connect us to our family of origin. Both approaches help find answers to questions deeply rooted in family history—raising awareness of how they affect our lives today. We adopt not only physical traits or behavioral patterns, but also unconscious beliefs, feelings of guilt, fears, or loyalties toward our ancestors.

These “emotional legacies” influence our daily lives—our relationships, our health, our careers, our self-image. Like ingredients in a large soup pot, the experiences of several generations blend within us—often without our conscious recognition.

How can Psychogenealogy & Transgenerational Therapy help?

By becoming aware of traditional patterns and familial influences, we gain deeper insights into our own behavior and emotional reactions. Working together, we discover:
What am I unconsciously carrying for others?
What truly belongs to me?
What burdens am I allowed to let go of?

Dieser Prozess kann befreiend, klärend und heilend sein. Er ermöglicht Versöhnung mit der eigenen Geschichte – und damit neue, selbstbestimmte Wege im Hier und Jetzt.

How does Psychogenealogy and Transgenerational Therapy work?

Becoming aware of patterns

In our collaborative work, we learn how our personalities have been shaped by the beliefs, behaviors, and unspoken mandates of our family system. In order to fit in, we often unconsciously assume roles, deny our own needs, or repeat certain patterns—even when they harm us. Becoming aware of these dynamics is a first step toward change.

Transgenerational phenomena

Psychogenealogy and transgenerational therapy reveal how profound familial influences can be. Issues such as the anniversary syndrome, invisible loyalties, unfinished business, family secrets, the “surrogate child,” or migration experiences are examples of such entanglements that are passed down through generations – often silently, but with profound impact.

Genosociogram

A central tool in Psychogenealogical work is the Genosociogram developed by Anne Ancelin Schützenberger – an expanded family tree that visualizes important life events, family losses, patterns, and repetitions. It helps to recognize and bring into consciousness nonverbal messages, repressed memories, and unconscious connections.

Transgenerational map

The transgenerational map is a unique method/ tool I developed and designed, for exploration and support. The map helps to visualize familial connections and emotional inheritances. Similar to a real-life map, it reveals the “paths” taken within the family and the unconscious patterns that influence us.

This visual tool helps us identify familial entanglements, loyalties, and life’s missions. It creates clarity about the stories that have shaped us and opens up new perspectives for change.
